Late to the thread, but you should just enjoy how the movie looks and not worry about the story. The book is a bit heavy, but it’s fantastic.

Substitute oil for spice... and leave off the giant worms and space travel bit by consolidating the story to one planet, and the story all of the sudden looks like history, rather than fiction.
